I’ve described a way of understanding how the cognitive norm is moved by stress within organizations, the effects on the performance and behaviour of those organizations, and what can be done about it. The effects are visible in software engineering because they make some jobs undoable, but they are equally strong in other fields where they are concealed by customary habituation.

You can develop this kind of thinking by navigating to Amazon through any of the book links on the shelves around the blog or on the Further Reading page. There’s even an Amazon search box at the top right for finding a gardening book for Autie Flo’s birthday. Buy a book, you’ll expand your mind and I’ll get a few percent. If get enough I’ll be able to fund some experiments.

And don’t forget to try the Embedded Figures Test!

Thanks for reading!
